Bangalore is one of those Indian cities which is known for its architecture among many other things. In our last article, we posted an article about how Bangalore is catching up in the race of the best Indian city. In that list, we excluded Bangalore’s architecture because we thought it deserved a separate article. Here’s a list of 10 iconic buildings that define Bangalore’s architecture.
1) Vidhana Soudha
One of the most imposing buildings in Bangalore, Vidhana Soudha was built in the 1950s. It reflects the architecture of the Neo-Dravidian times. It was built to showcase indigenous architecture and guide the new age of democracy. Till date, it is one of the most iconic buildings in Bangalore.
2) Attara Kacheri
The Karnataka high court, popularly known as Attara Kacheri. It is located right opposite Vidhana Soudha. Attara Kacheri which literally means Eighteen offices was built in the 19th century and took almost four years to complete.
3) Bangalore Palace
The palace not only defines the history of Bangalore but also represents the spirit of Bangalore since the time of the Tipu Sultan. It is compared to Windsor Castle in England because of the similar style of architecture.
4) UB City
On one hand, there is Bangalore fort represents history, on the other hand, there is UB city, representing the modern era. The place is known for its picturesque architecture. It is one of the best-designed areas in India.
5) Sheshadri Iyer Memorial Hall
Built-in the memory of Dewan of Mysore, Sheshadri Iyer Memorial Hall is located in the Cubbon park, the memorial hall also houses a library. It is one of the best libraries in India with over 2.65 lakhs books.
6) Glass House Lal Bagh
The Glasshouse in the Botanical Garden also called as Lal Bagh is equally famous. The glasshouse is known for hosting the annual flower show that takes place in Bangalore every year.
7) Bagmane Tech park
Silicon Valley also boasts a lot of modern structures like Bagmane Tech Park. It is known for its unique design especially the building of Oracle Financial services software which is one of a kind in the country.
8) Tipu Sultan’s Summer Palace
Tipu sultan’s summer palace is the classic example of Indo- Islamic architecture, it lies within the walls of the Bangalore fort. Known for its beautiful ancient design and unique architecture, the Palace attracts thousands of tourists every month.
9) St Mary’s Basilica
Known as one of the oldest churches in Bangalore, St Mary’s Basilica church is the only church in Karnataka that holds the status of a minor basilica. It is a Gothic-styled church with arches and stained glasses.
10) Dharmaraya Swamy Temple
The architecture of the temple is said to be similar to the styles of Pallavas and Gangas. The temple is 800 years old and the only temple in India, dedicated to the Pandavas. The temple was recently renovated in 2009.
